Post-Holy Week Kwento

My family and I trekked to the province in two cars last Holy Wednesday. We were supposed to leave in just one car but Tricia had so much luggage that my father decided at the last minute to use two cars instead. Contrary to what we were expecting, the NLEX was not busy that day, probably because a lot of people started going out of town as early as Monday. Tricia made the 6 hour trip pass by quickly by doing her antics. Kakatuwa talaga yung batang iyon! She was babbling left and right, barely slept during the whole trip and so likot.

It was nice to see my aunts, uncles, cousins and lola once again. That night, we went to the next town to eat a sumptuous seafood meal courtesy of my tita. The sisig at the restaurant where we went to was soooo yummy that we ordered another serving. It was so hot in La Union that week, we had to sneak out and cool off at the mall and eat halo-halo. Halo-halo Iloko was worth the price! We also joined the traditional Holy Friday procession that went through the whole town proper. I ended up going to bed early that night with a severe pain on my lower back after 2 hours of walking and another 2 hours of standing to wait our turn at the image of the dead Jesus inside a glass coffin.

As early as 8 am that Saturday, we were already at the beach because my brother wanted to let Tricia swim without worrying about sunburns later on. It was still high tide when we arrived at our rented cottage, the waves were a little high (just right for surfing) and the wind blowing on our faces was a welcome respite from the heat. Tricia was a big hit that day. She was so cute in her 2 piece bathing suit, sunglasses and bathrobe. She also loved the water so much that it tore our hearts to get her out of the water when it was time to go home.

With heavy hearts, we left for Manila after lunch Easter Sunday. The traffic was bad in some towns and even Tricia came back to Manila with a tan but it was all worth the trip!

We don't remember days, we remember moments!

This is the first time in 2 weeks that I am having a day all to myself. I don't even remember what I did the last week of March. I did see two of my best girl friends during my clerkship days in med school last March 30. Z and S both live North of Manila now so for us (all practicing doctors) to get together would mean a lot of text messaging and juggling of schedules. Nevertheless, we made it to Greenhills without any hitches and went around till I was ready to drop. We must've went around the stalls 3 times that day! I don't frequent Greenhills that much because its a little far from my house and I always had a hard time looking for a parking space but it is worth the trip. The items at the tiangges are really very affordable and if you are a good haggler, you will surely go home happy with your shopping bags. I drove home with 2 new blouses, 2 bags and a pair of mules which cost me 50% less than what it would've cost me if I bought at the mall.

April 2-5 was the annual convention of the Philippine Pediatric Society at the PICC. If you want to update yourself about old friends who are now pediatricians then this convention is a must. Pediatricians from all over the country take time out to attend this yearly convention. This is also the time to see your pediatricians outwitting each other just for a bag being given free by drug companies. People sometimes even look through another person's bags just to compare what he has in his bag. I really find this very funny because the things that you lined up for almost always end up as kalat inside the house later on although some freebies like baby wipes are very useful. This year, I didn't have the patience to join the long cues except for a bag I really, really liked and a plastic organizer/picinic basket. I also had my fill of a lot of seafoods last week courtesy of some reps. Marina and the seafood market both in Macapagal Avenue are great places to go if you have a craving for baked tahong and crabs.

I also had a very important mission last week - counsel a very good friend against going back to her two-timing boyfriend. I don't even want to think about what that jerk did because it really makes me fuming mad. I know love sometimes puts colored glasses on people but I hope I was able to get through my friend.

I am pretty excited because the whole family will be going out of town tomorrow morning. Summer is really here and the heat can be stiffling, I can't wait to take a dip in the beaches of La Union with my cousins. It is at times like this that I wish I can muster the courage to learn how to swim. This will be the first time too that we will be bringing Tricia to the beach. She loves her baths and really enjoys her plastic pool but the beach is different. The ever kikay Tricia 's swimming gear is even complete from head to toe! Hindi naman kami excited dalhin siya sa beach ano? Hahaha!
